Solar Buddy FAQ
Everything you need to know about how Solar Buddy keeps an eye on your solar.
How does Solar Buddy detect faults?
Solar Buddy connects to the monitoring your inverter already has and builds a picture of how your system should perform. It then watches the gap between what you should be generating and what you actually are. When real underperformance shows up, you get an alert. Because it learns each system on its own, it can tell a genuine fault apart from normal day to day variation.
Do I need to install new hardware?
No. Solar Buddy works with the monitoring your system already has, so there is nothing new to put on site. You connect your existing setup and we take it from there.
Which inverter brands does it work with?
Solar Buddy is brand agnostic, so it works across the major inverter brands rather than locking you into one. If you are not sure whether your system is supported, check the Supported Brands page or get in touch and we will let you know.
How quickly will I know if something goes wrong?
Fast. When Solar Buddy spots a genuine fault you get an SMS and email within hours, not at your next scheduled service. That means you can call your installer the same day instead of finding out months later when the generation bill looks off.
Won't weather and seasonal changes cause false alarms?
This is exactly why charts on their own are so hard to read. Solar Buddy accounts for weather, shading and seasonal variation when it works out what your system should be doing. It only flags a problem when the output is genuinely below where it should be, so you are not chasing alerts that turn out to be a cloudy afternoon.
What happens when a fault is detected?
You are not left to work it out on your own. A real person reviews the fault, explains in plain English what it means and what to do next, and helps you get it sorted. It is closer to having someone watch your system for you than another dashboard to check.
Who is Solar Buddy for?
Mainly three groups. Commercial solar owners protecting a serious investment, installers and O&M providers who want to offer proactive service and cut down emergency callouts, and homeowners who just want to know their system is actually working. The For Installers and Pricing pages go into more detail.
How much does it cost?
Pricing is set up to pay for itself by catching problems before they cost you in lost generation. You can see the current options on the Pricing page, or book a free demo and we will talk through what suits your setup.
How do I get started?
Book a free 15 minute demo. We will show you how it works, connect your existing monitoring and get you set up. After that Solar Buddy runs in the background and only gets in touch when there is something worth telling you about.
